National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia
“O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.”
-Quran (Hujurat, 13)
January 29 marked the sixth anniversary of the terrorist attack on a Québec City mosque which is identified as the National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia.
Following Quranic teachings, Imam Hossein Cultural Centre of Ottawa condemns hatred in any form and racial or religious supremacism including Islamophobia. Following Rumi’s worldview, we strongly believe that our self-perception heavily relies on the existence of other people who happen to be different from us in language, culture, religion, and appearance:
“The contrary is revealed by contrary,
like the Greek and the Ethiopian.
Therefore, you know the light by the opposite of light,
contrary reveals contrary within (people’s) hearts.”
