Observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Dear friends,
As you are likely aware, September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day dedicated to honoring the legacy of residential schools. This occasion provides an excellent opportunity for us to contemplate the ongoing colonial issues in Canada and the enduring injustices faced by Indigenous communities. It serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to challenge colonialism in our nation.
The Imam Hossein Cultural Center of Ottawa extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the residential school system. We firmly denounce all forms of oppression and discrimination and support any efforts aimed at promoting justice for all people worldwide.
On this day, which brings to mind somber chapters in history, let us come together to reflect on the groundlessness of any claims to racial, religious, ethnic, or class superiority. Through open discussions within our families, we can actively contribute to the creation of a more just and equitable world. May Allah guide us on this path and bestow His blessings upon everyone with His mercy.
