Observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Dear friends,

As many of you know, September 30th is recognized as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day set aside to honor the children who never made it home and the Survivors of residential schools. This is an important moment for us to reflect on the ongoing colonial challenges in Canada and the lasting injustices faced by Indigenous communities. It calls on us to acknowledge our collective responsibility in confronting colonialism in our country.

The Imam Hossein Cultural Centre of Ottawa offers its sincere condolences to the families impacted by the residential school system. We strongly condemn all forms of oppression and discrimination and stand in support of efforts to promote justice for all people worldwide.

On this day of remembrance, let us come together to reflect on the baselessness of claims to racial, religious, ethnic, or class superiority. By engaging in open conversations within our families, we can actively work toward a more just and equitable world. May Allah guide us in this endeavor and bless everyone with His mercy.
