IHCCO Statement on the Escalating Crisis in Iran
We strongly and unequivocally reject the war launched by Israel against Iran, now actively supported by the United States. This aggressive campaign – marked by the bombing of civilian areas, critical infrastructure, and nuclear facilities – poses an alarming threat to regional and global stability. These attacks are blatant violations of international law and a direct assault on human life and dignity. We call on all people of conscience, including elected officials, civil society groups, faith communities, and individuals, to raise their voices and do everything in their power to stop this reckless military escalation before more innocent lives are lost. Silence in the face of such injustice is complicity.
As an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to cultural activities for the Canadian-Iranian Muslim community in Ottawa, the Imam Hossein Cultural Centre of Ottawa (IHCCO) affirms that the Iranian diaspora is diverse, shaped by a wide range of political views and lived experiences. Iran is an ancient nation with a rich cultural heritage and stands as a true embodiment of diversity in all its forms. Yet despite our differences, we are united in grief, anger, and a longing for justice. We reject binary narratives and recognize these times as profoundly painful and complex.
Following our previous statement and while the IHCCO refrains from political engagement, we feel compelled to express deep concern for the safety and future of our fellow Iranians, including our beloved families and friends. Iran is not just our homeland, but a cradle of history, culture, art, and humanistic values that have enriched global civilization for thousands of years. We carry this heritage with pride.
Iran’s internal challenges do not and cannot justify foreign military aggression. The U.S.-backed Israeli attacks in Iran and across the region have led to senseless bloodshed and widespread destruction. The United States’ assault on Iran’s infrastructure is not only a tragedy for Iranians, but a broader threat to global order. It undermines international law, erodes trust in global institutions, and signals a world governed by power rather than principle. This is not just Iran’s crisis; its consequences will ripple far beyond its borders, threatening our shared humanity.
Our faith teaches us compassion, justice, and the sanctity of life – principles that all people of conscience can uphold. In this spirit, we call on our elected representatives in Canada and the international community to condemn these unilateral and reckless actions, and to uphold multilateralism as the only viable path to lasting peace.
We also invite all Canadians who believe in the protection of life, culture, and moral values to support this cause by signing the petition below:
